Choose the Best Day for Your Guests

Many holidays fall in the spring. You’ll want to avoid those that will make people unable to attend, but others could add extra fun and festivity to your event! What will work for you will depend on your guests. Consider the holidays they might celebrate, and consult any relevant school calendars. Choosing anything that overlaps with spring break could help or hurt attendance. Talk to out-of-town guests and find out for sure!

One good thing about spring is that you don’t have to plan around football season… Yes, this is actually a consideration for many couples who decide to get married in the fall, depending on whether their friends and family members are avid college football fans.

Pro tip: Consider a long weekend, such as Memorial Day weekend, if you’re planning an event from out-of-town. The holiday will give your guests an extra day to stay in Asheville.

Prepare for Bad Weather

Spring is a beautiful time of year, but its weather can be unpredictable. If your ceremony is outdoors, plan for rain by renting tents. If your date is earlier in the season, bride and bridesmaid dresses might be best with sleeves… or consider picking out a matching shawl in case the weather is chilly. Watch the weather forecast and consider providing guests with either umbrellas or sunscreen, depending on the prediction.

Go Big with Flowers

If you love flowers, you will love how many options you will have with a spring wedding. Take advantage by using them to decorate! You can use them as a backdrop for your ceremony, along the aisles, on the tables, as garlands, or on your cake, to name a few ideas. And, of course, the bride and bridesmaids can hold big, beautiful bouquets. A creative florist can help you make all these ideas a reality.

Plan Seasonal Food and Drinks

Another advantage of spring is how many fresh foods are available, so plan a menu that takes advantage of seasonable fruits, vegetables, and herbs. You can also serve a signature punch or cocktail that complements your color scheme and food choices. For example, pear ginger fizz is a cool, flavorful drink that tastes good with or without vodka. And for an extra special touch, garnish your dishes with fresh herbs or edible flowers.

Asheville, known as “Foodtopia” for a reason, has many caterers that work with local farmers so your guests can have a delicious spring farm-to-table experience at your wedding. We’d love to help you find the perfect one!
