Spring in Asheville: Events, Activities, and More

Spring has officially sprung in Asheville, so we’ve compiled a guide of activities close to the Bunn House for you to explore! From beautiful gardens to hiking routes, scenic drives and tours, Asheville has something for everyone and the Bunn House is the perfect place to stay while experiencing it all.

Biltmore Blooms

The Biltmore Blooms event at the Vanderbilt Estate is the perfect place to celebrate Spring in style. Enjoy the colors and scents of over 110,000 flowers in full bloom as you wander through the historic grounds. Your experience starts with a sea of yellow daffodils, then fragrant hyacinths, followed by tulips and azaleas in purple, pink, white, and orange. Kids will also like the Biltmore Gardens Railway, a model train that loops through the Conservatory. The event runs from April 1 to May 27, so be sure to see it while it’s running!

Take a Hike!

The Mountains-to-Sea trailhead at Craven Gap is just 15 minutes from downtown Asheville and spans the entire state of North Carolina. The two-mile stretch is accessible and family friendly, and you’ll see azaleas, violets, and trillium in the fresh mountain air. You’ll walk to a stunning rock outcropping that provides wide views across the Blue Ridge Parkway. Take a break from the city and take a hike along this gorgeous trail.

Family Fun

The Adventure Center of Asheville is perfect for families with kids as young as four. With ziplines for all ages, it’s an ideal family bonding activity, especially with the gorgeous spring weather! Kids 8 and up can go on the Canopy Zipline Tour, or join your kids on KidZip, the first zipline adventure designed for ages 4-10. You can also rent a mountain bike and check out their trails, pump tracks, jump lines, and challenges. All of their activities follow current social distancing protocols and mask mandates.

Rainy Day? Sweet!

With springtime rain is a possibility, but that doesn't mean the fun in Asheville has to stop! A tour of the French Broad Chocolate Factory includes a behind-the-scenes peek at the entire chocolate-making process, and of course there are sampling opportunities. Be sure to try their sought-after Spring Eggs and plan to take some home. They have a unique parabolic solar cacao bean roaster, and after the tour you can relax at the French Broad Chocolate Lounge.

Half-Pint Friendly

Asheville always offers plenty of spring events for adults, and there are several places to enjoy the famous Asheville beer scene while the kids play. The Meadow at Highland Brewing has an outdoor bar where you can soak up the sun, a children’s space, and sunny and shady spots to sip. Their production of 46,000 barrels annually makes Highland Brewing largest family-owned brewery in the Southeast, and there’s a brew for every beverage connoisseur. In addition, the brewery offers tours and live music events, all while following social distancing guidelines.

The Bunn House is the perfect place to stay and in the center of all these spring-centered events and activities. To plan your stay, click here.
